Morningside Campus Access Updates

The following color-coded campus status levels have been developed to simplify communication regarding the current circumstances on and around the Morningside campus. The campus status level is based upon the potential disruption to our academic mission and/or campus operations. The status level will be adjusted up or down to reflect then-current circumstances, including information received from law enforcement and other sources regarding potential events that could affect Columbia. Continued adherence to university rules and policies remains fundamental to maintaining an open campus. Read more.

Biography

Mark L. Clifford is an Adjunct Research Scholar in the Center on Global Energy Policy (CGEP) of Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA).

He holds a PhD from the University of Hong Kong, where his research focused on the role of electricity in the modernization of Hong Kong. Let There Be Light: Electricity and the Making of Modern Hong Kong  is forthcoming from Columbia University Press. He is an Honorary Assistant Professor at the University of Hong Kong’s Centre for Humanities and Medicine.

Previous books include The Greening of Asia: The Business Case for Solving Asia’s Environmental Emergency (Columbia University Press) and, as co-author, Building Energy Efficiency: Why Green Buildings Are Key to Asia’s Future (Asia Business Council). He has also authored or co-authored books on Hong Kong, South Korea, and China.

In Hong Kong, Clifford was the publisher and editor-in-chief of The Standard, the editor-in-chief of the South China Morning Post, and executive director of the Asia Business Council. He is the president of the Committee for Freedom in Hong Kong.
