Esra Suel

Biography

Esra is an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in City Modelling at The Bartlett Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis, University College London. Her research focuses on development of computational methods for analysing built environments and human behavior in cities. She is motivated by questions in urban mobility and its electrification, housing, social and health inequalities with a particular focus on mechanisms of change.

She received her PhD degree in Urban Systems and Transport Planning from Imperial College London. She then joined the Global Environmental Health Research Group as postdoc working for the Wellcome Trust funded Pathways to Equitable Healthy Cities project. In 2018, she was awarded the Rutherford Fellowship from the UK Medical Research Council. As part of her training, she was a Visiting Scholar at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She also worked as a Senior Data Scientist at the Swiss Data Science Center at ETH Zurich, and as Senior Assistant at the Chair of Geoinformation Engineering at ETH Zurich between 2018 and 2022. She holds a BSc. degree in Mechatronics Engineering from Sabanci University in Turkey and an MSE degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Michigan. In June 2022, she joined UCL where she’s part of the CASA City Modelling Lab
