The Center on Global Energy Policy (CGEP) at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs today announced applications for the 2024 Energy Journalism Fellows program, which will be held on the university’s campus in New York City from June 11-14, 2024.
Taught by CGEP Scholars, Columbia faculty, and other academic, industry, and government experts, the Energy Journalism Fellows program (EJF) offers journalists the chance to learn about the intersecting disciplines shaping the global energy sector, including finance and markets, climate change, science and technology, policy, and geopolitics.
“Energy systems are complex,” said Jason Bordoff, Founding Director of CGEP. “And to better understand the urgent energy and climate issues facing our planet, it’s vital for policymakers, business figures, and the public to access reliable, well-researched reporting. This initiative provides a unique and important opportunity for domestic and international journalists to engage with world class climate and energy experts at Columbia University.”
Since its inception in 2017, the Energy Journalism Fellows program has enrolled 140 journalists from the US and around the world. The EJF program is open to journalists covering energy, climate, and the environment with preference given to reporters with five or fewer years of experience on the beat.
“We see this program as an important opportunity for new and seasoned journalists to get access to top educational resources and experts to help them better understand a wide variety of technical topics associated with the energy transition and climate change,” said Bill Loveless, Director of the Energy Journalism Fellows program.
The Energy Journalism Fellows program will select 20 energy journalists for the 2024 EJF cohort. There is no cost for participation in the program. CGEP will cover transportation and hotel expenses.
The deadline for applications is March 1, 2024.
