Dr. Andrew Cooper is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Columbia's Deptartment of Political Science. A New York-based historian and commentator on US-Iran relations, global energy markets and geopolitical risk, he is the author of The Oil Kings: How the US, Iran and Saudi Arabia Changed the Balance of Power in the Middle East (Simon & Schuster: New York 2011) and the forthcoming title The Fall of Heaven: The Pahlavis and the Last Days of Imperial Iran (Holt: New York 2016). He is also a contributing columnist to Foreign Policy and the Guardian newspaper’s Tehran Bureau web site. His past employers include the United Nations and Human Rights Watch. Member of the UK Energy Institute. Research published in the Middle East Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, Economist and other publications. He recieved his Masters' degrees in Journalism (Columbia University 1994) and Strategic Studies (University of Aberdeen 2008). Ph.D. in History (Victoria University 2012).
