The SIPA Center on Global Energy Policy (CGEP) is seeking to bring on a graduate student researcher to support the Power Sector and Renewables Research Initiative's research activities during the 2020-2021 academic year. At this time, the team is seeking to identify a candidate who can support a distinguished visiting fellow (Cheryl LaFleur) on issues related to energy and climate, with particular focus on the transition of electricity markets to support decarbonization. We are looking for someone who can start as soon as possible but no later than the beginning of the fall 2020 semester.
Activities will include:
- research and writing on energy issues
- helping prepare presentations and teaching materials
- helping to structure and then attending events focused on energy policy
- consulting on issues and requests that come up on energy topics.
The team is particularly looking for candidates who are:
- interested in energy and climate issues, especially related to the transition of electric markets, and have demonstrated this interest in these topics (having worked on or taken classes related to those topics is a plus)
- good writers (this is essential)
- self-starters and able to work remotely
- comfortable with multitasking and flexible (i.e., comfortable with last-minute changes, unexpected deadlines, and varying job tasks)
- team players, able to disagree without being disagreeable
- discreet and of high integrity
- familiar with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc and comfortable in helping to prepare charts and visuals (don't need to be a super quant --- but need to be comfortable with working in Excel)
In this position, the successful candidate could expect to:
- work directly with a distinguished visiting fellow within the Power Sector and Renewables Research Initiative at CGEP who would simultaneously serve as supervisor and mentor to the graduate student.
- have opportunities to attend events
- have opportunities for co-authorship (if and as appropriate)

Successful candidates will be expected to work for 20 hours per week and will receive compensation of $16/hour (negotiable after the first semester).
